Judging: exercise ballet 1c
Now let's go and compare the scores you gave with what I think should be the range the trick was in. We don't need to have the same opinion, we may have different ideas. But the reasoning behind a score should be clear.
540 I would give 6 (so a range of 5 to 7 would be ok). Some might go as low as 4.
The rotation isn't full, therefor the OUT isn't what it should be. You have to be on the field for this trick, to see where in the wind window the trick is executed.
Backspins I'll give 6, but the range should be not higher than 6, even if it's only the drifting that is wrong. The trick is better on the spot :-)
Slotmachine 5 for me! One judge was thinking that it didn't looked like a Slotmachine, so he gave BAD. It has a lot of faults, but it is a slotmachine, I think. 4 would be ok as well.
Multilazy 5 again. The pilot has to struggle too much to get the trick done. 6 can be given, but not more.
Lewis 1 point for trying. If this was a first attempt, the pilot would certainly do a second one.
Multilazy 1 point.
Backspins 1 point.
Lewis I would no go higher than 8, but as we did see, 8 and above is EXCELLENT.
There's that little pause and a little wobble in the OUT.
Jacobs Ladder Now here's a good basic Jacobs Ladder, with the only flaw being the sideways drifting. How much points does he loose for that? I would give 7. But it could have been 6.
That's it for this exercise. I hope you learned something from it, besides that tastes might be different. You can learn a lot by rewinding and looking at every detail of the tricks. You'll get the hang of judging soon enough, but you still need to go out on the field and practice like it's for real. See if you can find pilots who are practicing their ballets. They will be pleased to hear an opinion on what they are doing.
Don't try to judge demo's, they are a completely different matter, because the tricks don't have to be like they are listed, they can do whatever they feel like in the moment. The connection with the music should be better, I hope ;-)
